As I grew up, the world began to lose its sparkle :(

Vivid colors, explosive flavors, and limitless imagination of childhood started to fade. Joyful experiences became less euphoric, and intense love felt harder to come by. My greatest fear was unfolding—I started becoming like all the other adults!!

Determined to reclaim the playful, curious, and loving human spirit I had as a kid, I embarked on a deliberate journey to undo the many layers of adult conditioning. I let myself enjoy, let go of perfection, get out of my own way, and throw myself into every curiosity. I said “Yes!” to learning and discovering what my curious brain desired, from improv, clowning, powerlifting, and stage combat to pottery, trampoline, dance, and acrobatics. I took myself to restaurants no one else wanted to go to, silly activities that only aligned with my interests, and went to obscure theater performances that would’ve weirded out my friends. I made art that looked imperfect on purpose and started asking restaurant staff “What’s the most unpopular item on your menu? I’ll have that!” or “I”ll have your silliest wine!”. I started to play! And it changed everything. I became comfortable in the discomfort of experiencing something totally new by myself, finding room to laugh and enjoy the vulnerability of the unfamiliar.

Being constantly exposed to newness conditioned my brain to find comfort in discomfort, allowing me to see beyond fear to the joy right behind it. I discovered a sense of play only able to be acquired through vulnerability. My playful self opened doors to immense creative freedom, allowing my potential to feel limitless, colors to appear more vibrant, emotions to feel stronger, love to feel all encompassing. And I was better able to hold tragedy and sorrow rather than avoid it.

Today, playful Meg is my most wonderful, constant companion, brightening my relationship with all forms of creativity! From writing to design, ideation to business strategy, fine art to communication, my playful spirit infuses every aspect of my creative process—I’m making my best work yet!

What to expect:

A 4 hour in-person workshop. We’ll be doing a variety of playful creative exercises with art, performance, and physical self. There is no pressure to make anything look or sound good, in fact, the goal is the opposite! The worse, the better! This is not a place to compare yourself to anyone else or prevent yourself from being your most wonderful self. We want to love you, let us!

Who it’s for:

Creatives (and those looking to be more creative) at any place in their career who are looking to bring the shimmer back into their process, want to take life just a little less seriously (even for just a few hours), shed perfectionism, and embrace vulnerability. If you’re a little scared and looking to grow and become more comfortable being your most silly self, this workshop is for you!

Who it isn’t for:

If you’re ready to judge, love to make fun of people, often resist silliness, love to describe things as “cringe”, or are looking for a practical design workshop where we are going to make carefully crafted pieces, you’ll hate this!! (But you’ll probably need it the most)

What you’ll do:

  • Make drawings that embrace imperfection!

  • Rediscover curiosity through playful imagination!

  • Invent ridiculous solutions!

  • Learn silly fight choreography!

  • Craft sculptures at the speed of fun!

  • Play with clay! tape! crayon! paint!

  • And so much more!

What you’ll get out of it:

In this workshop, you’ll embark on a journey to connect with your most unique creativity by reigniting the sparkle back into your adult brain. Rediscover your playful, curious spirit and unlock the full potential of your creativity. Through engaging activities and silly challenges, you’ll gain techniques to overcome creative blocks, innovate with unique ideas, and face discomfort with joy. You’ll leave equipped to infuse your creative process with a newfound, playful spirit!

FAQ

What should I bring?

This workshop requires nothing but your most open mind. If you’re anxious, nervous, or unsure, you’re doing it right! This workshop is all about getting more comfortable with those feelings. Just bring yourself, you are always enough.

I’m anxious, can you tell me exactly what happens?

You got it! I always need to know absolutely everything about a new endeavor in order to feel comfortable attending, especially if the information is vague. Reach out to me at boop@meglewis.com and I’ll give you an extremely detailed outline of every activity so you know exactly what to expect.

WILL YOU BE COMING TO MY CITY?

I really want to! Can you help me figure out how to make it to your city? If you have a company or know of a space that is willing to host this workshop, please reach out. Having a space secured makes it much easier for me to plan. And teaching a corporate workshop in each city also helps me to keep the ticket prices as low as possible. If you have a company that would like the teams version of this workshop, please reach out!

You teach this workshop to teams?

Yes I do! I have a teams version of Creative Play geared towards reigniting creativity, innovating through unique challenges, and fostering collaboration. Take a look here for more information.

can you teach this workshop at my conference or event?

Of course! This workshop is made to be modular, flexible, and can be slotted into your existing event. I can offer versions of this experience ranging from 1-6 hours in length. A talk option is also available. Please reach out if you’re interested in hosting a Creative Play workshop or talk at your event!

How did you choose the ticket price?

The ticket price is set at exactly what it needs to be to cover supply costs, my travel to your city, and also pay me for the time while I’m teaching the workshop. I don’t teach these workshops to make a ton of cash, people over profit is a value that is important to me. I hope you understand!

I can’t afford the ticket price! do you offer discounted rates?

I give a small number of tickets to each workshop away at a discounted rate for those in need. If you are not able to meet your survival needs for yourself and/or your dependents and think this workshop would greatly benefit you, please reach out and we’ll make it work!
