The world made us boring on purpose

Look around! Every condo building looks the same. Every company culture preaches the same values. Every tech site uses the same gradient and the same fonts and the same little illustrations. Every teen is wearing the same North Face puffer / baggy jean / UGG boot combo!!! It is suspicious!
The most boring adults in power want it this way. Homogeneous groups are easier to manage and easier to control. So they push us away from what makes us unique (our humanity, our joy, our curiosity, our ability to love and play) until businesses become forgettable, individuals dim their light, and we're all so busy following the rules that we forget what makes us unique and capable of innovation. Why?
Their success depends on us doubting ours.

But the kid you were before the world got to you? They’re still in there. They’re desperate to play, innovate, and change the world. We just have to bring them back to work with us!
Why I'm the one doing this
I was a kid in the 90s. My dad traveled for work, so I watched a lot of TV. Kids TV in the 90s had themes like "Love your neighbor!" "Share your feelings!" "Stay curious!" But I noticed the actual adults around me weren't doing any of that. They were stressed, obsessed with money, mean to each other in small ways, and complaining about everything.
So I started asking why, but their answers never really held up. Eventually it became obvious: the adults had no idea what they were doing. So kid Meg made a secret decision. Someday it would be my job to fix everything!
As I grew up, I studied how the world quickly taught my fellow kids to shut up, follow the rules, stay in line, and strive to be the best at all costs. And those kids grew into adults that were obsessed with winning, being the best, and hating every part of what makes them most unique.
Eventually, my dad got early-onset dementia. Our last conversations were always apologies. He'd prioritized climbing the ladder, missed everything, and spent his life focused on the wrong things.
While he was dying, by his bedside, I told him my secret and I made him a promise: I'm going to do everything I can to fix everything.
This career of mine is me keeping my promise.
Here's what I actually do!
